Location
The Lower Orange River region, from Upington towards the west, is South Africa’s most important early grape growing region. It is also the heartland of the farming activities of the Karsten Group.
The head quarters of the Karsten Group are located at Roepersfontein, near Kanoneiland and west of Upington. The Group’s Orange River business is based on ten farms, stretching over 300 kilometres from Klein Pella in the West to Kanoneiland in the east. In recent years the Karsten Group expanded its production along the river with dates, citrus fruit, pomegranates, melons and watermelons.
Further south, in South Africa's Western Cape, it acquired one of the leading deciduous fruit farming operations, Hoogland, at Ceres. Here the Karsten Group is expanding its production of apples, pears, plums and onions, and introduced the latest cherry and blueberry varieties to boost its produce basket.
Durbanville, near Cape Town, is home to the Group’s marketing and logistics operations which is provided by New Vision Fruit and Horizon Fruits.
Overseas based table grape production is located in Egypt and the Karsten Group’s Karsten UK operations coordinate distribution and marketing in Europe and the United Kingdom.
