Safety Policies

The safety legislation relevant is the Occupational Health and Safety Act no. 85 of 1993 which also serve as the center stone of our internal policy. Our objective is to attached special importance to the health and safety of all people involved or who works on the farm. As a company we are dedicated to provide and maintain a safe and healthy working environment to all our clients and employees. It is of vital importance that everyone must be safety conscious in themselves and towards fellow workers to ensure well being. It is policy that all employees must adhere to all legal statutory and company regulations designed to protect the health and safety of everybody.

CRITICAL ISSUES

If safety is compromised work will be stopped immediately till the situation is rectified. A company belief is that if you work safely, there will be less disruptions. Time extensions due to safety related issues will not be allowed. All employees are encouraged that pre-planning will prevent unsafe conditions and equally important all concerned must be involved in safety meetings and audits.

SAFETY COMMITTEE

We have a central Occupational Health and Safety Committee who is responsible for safety in general and who dictates on policy matters affecting the company and it's employees. For each farm there is a safety committee and the respective safety coordinators who are the farm manager also acts as the chairperson of the committee. Safety representatives are being elected democratically from within the different blocks in order to ensure equal spread of safety representatives amongst the general workforce. All safety representatives signs an appointment letter to illustrate their commitment to safety in the company which is in line with the requirements of the act. The central committee meets on a quarterly basis and the different farm committees have meetings on a monthly basis. Safety is part of the agenda of the different unit meetings which is held on a weekly basis. We also have trained health workers in the different blocks who in return is provided with a first aid kit which is used to assist if and when accidents occur.

NOTIFICATION AND SAFETY SIGNS

Adequate notification and safety signs are provided in the interest of absolute safety. We try as much as we can to have notification at every entrance informing unauthorised entry in a language acceptable to the people who workon the farm. Clear and firm notifications are also displayed at the different packshed's where most of the people work during harvesting. The packing of grapes for the exporting market is viewed as extremely sensitive and it is therefore that we believe that all nessecary statutory regulations needs to be adhere to. You can read more of this on the section which deals with the quality of grapes.
