Empowerment Philosophy

The Karsten Group has a broad-based philosophy to empower the people working for the Group in order to ensure that all workers can achieve their full potential and be happy employees and families who contribute to the long term sustainability of the group. The Group’s fruit and vegetable production is highly intensive with products being sold in the most sophisticated markets of the world.

This requires a high level of skills transfer, training and support services to support the communities which has developed around the Group’s extensive production activities and which are located mostly in the rural regions of South Africa where employment opportunities are scarce.

Apart from the Group’s extensive people development programme the Karsten Group has also embarked on two major empowerment projects which is destined to make workers co-owners through shareholding. Keboes Fruit Farms, located some 250 kilometers west of Upington on the banks of the Orange River, is a successful table grape business.

Mosplaas Sitrus is a new development at Keimoes west of Upington where citrus fruit will be produced for the export market.
